Neck finish reference for fine mist sprayers

The neck finish is the thread at the top of the bottle, written as diameter / thread type. A mismatch between bottle and sprayer is the single most common reason a spray order fails at the filling line.

Sprayer output and how long a bottle lasts

Output is measured in millilitres per full stroke and it decides both the feel of the mist and the number of uses a bottle delivers. It is the specification most buyers forget to state.

0.05 – 0.07 ml Perfume. A very fine, dry mist that lands without wetting the skin. A 50 ml bottle gives roughly 700–1,000 sprays. Fine
0.08 – 0.13 ml Toner, essence and setting spray. Visible mist, covers the face in 4–6 strokes. A 100 ml bottle gives 750–1,250 sprays. Medium
0.13 – 0.20 ml Sanitizer, body and hair mist. Wet spray that needs a larger orifice and a wider dip tube. A 200 ml bottle gives 1,000–1,500 sprays. Coarse
Crimp vs screw Perfume usually uses a crimp pump that cannot be refilled. Skincare and sanitizer use a screw sprayer. That choice also decides whether you can sell refills. Closure type

Reading a neck finish correctly

20/410 means a 20 mm thread diameter with a 410 thread profile. The first number is the diameter in millimetres, the second describes the thread pitch and height. A 20/410 sprayer will not fit a 20/415 bottle — both are 20 mm across, but the thread does not engage, so the closure leaks or pops off under pressure. Always match both numbers, and always ask for a bottle-and-sprayer sample assembled by the factory rather than separately.

Dip tube length is part of the specification

The dip tube has to reach within 2–3 mm of the bottle base, cut at an angle so it does not seal against the bottom. If you source bottles and sprayers from different suppliers, the tube is almost always the wrong length — too long and it curls, too short and the last 10% of the product cannot be sprayed. Specify the bottle height and let one supplier cut the tube to match.

Why output changes with the product, not the bottle

The same sprayer dispenses differently depending on viscosity. An alcohol-based perfume at 1–2 cP sprays far finer than a glycerin-heavy toner at 20 cP through the identical engine. If your formula is thick, ask for a sprayer with a larger orifice rather than accepting a weak, spitting spray — this is the number one complaint on toner mists.

Spray bottle specification questions

How many ml is 1 fl oz?

One US fluid ounce is 29.5735 ml, so 1 fl oz ≈ 29.6 ml. One UK fluid ounce is 28.4131 ml. A "1 oz" perfume bottle is usually filled to 30 ml, and a "3.4 oz" bottle to 100 ml.

What neck size does a fine mist spray bottle use?

Most fine mist spray bottles use 13/410, 15/415, 18/415, 20/410, 24/410 or 28/410. Perfume sizes cluster around 13–18 mm, skincare toners around 20–24 mm, and body or hair mists around 24–28 mm.

What is the difference between 410 and 415 thread?

Both are standard thread profiles; 415 is taller with a different pitch. A 20/410 closure will not seal on a 20/415 bottle even though the diameter matches. Always confirm both numbers, not just the millimetres.

How many sprays are in a 50 ml perfume bottle?

At a typical 0.06 ml per spray, roughly 700–800 sprays. A 100 ml bottle gives 1,400–1,600. This is why output per stroke matters commercially — a coarser sprayer makes the bottle run out visibly faster.

Can I use the same sprayer for sanitizer and toner?

Physically yes, but not well. Sanitizer at 70% alcohol is thin and sprays fine; a glycerin toner is far more viscous and needs a larger orifice. Using a perfume sprayer on a thick toner produces a weak, spitting spray and is the most common quality complaint on mist products.

What is the MOQ for custom fine mist spray bottles?

5,000 pcs for stock bottles and sprayers with your print, 3,000 for larger body and hair mist sizes. A custom bottle shape or a bespoke sprayer engine means tooling and pushes MOQ to 10,000–20,000 pcs.
